Ask Knowable is a generative AI-powered assistant available throughout Knowable Insights. It helps you find contracts faster, understand agreements more easily, and answer questions using natural language.
With Ask Knowable you can:
- Find contracts using conversational prompts instead of complex searches.
- Summarize agreements with AI-generated summaries.
- Ask questions about an individual agreement.
- Ask questions across an entire contract family to identify which related documents contain the information you need.
Where can I use Ask Knowable?
Ask Knowable is available in several places throughout KI:
- Knowable Home (Beta) – start conversations directly from the Home page.
- Contracts and Analytics – find contracts using natural language.
- Document Details – ask questions about a specific agreement or across a related group of agreements.
Ask Knowable on the Home Page (Beta)
Ask Knowable is now available directly from the Knowable Home page, bringing conversational search and AI-powered contract analysis into a single experience.
Simply describe what you're looking for in plain language. For example:
- "Show me my contracts with Microsoft."
- "Which agreements mention termination for convenience?"
- "Find contracts that expire in the next 90 days."
Suggested questions are available to help you get started.
As you continue the conversation, Ask Knowable remembers the context of your previous questions, making it easy to refine results, compare agreements, and explore contracts step by step. Conversations currently support up to 20 follow-up questions.
Find a Contract
You can also access Ask Knowable from the Contracts or Analytics pages.
- Select Ask Knowable in the upper-right corner.
- Open the Find a Contract panel.
- Ask your question naturally.
The more detail you provide, the more accurately Ask Knowable can translate your request into search criteria.
For example:
- "Which of my contracts mention termination for convenience or similar concepts? Exclude inactive contracts."
- "Find contracts that mention termination for cause or breach. Do not include inactive contracts."
If you want Ask Knowable to include related wording, include phrases such as "or similar concepts" in your prompt.
If you are starting a completely different search, begin a new conversation rather than continuing an existing one.
Sample questions are available to get you started. Ask Knowable transforms these into powerful searches – the more detailed your questions, the more precise your responses will be.
- Ask Knowable interprets the questions and matches them to filters and keywords, so the more detail you provide, the higher the chance Ask Knowable will identify the right criteria.
- Example: “Show me my contract with the account number 8675309” will provide better results than “show me 8675309”
- You can request similar words or phrases like this:
- Find my contracts that include data privacy language or similar concepts in the contract.
- If you are not asking a follow up question to refine your results, it is best to start a new conversation.
Search Recommendations
Ask Knowable builds searches using up to three information sources:
- Knowable-analyzed contract data, such as Counterparty, Effective Date, and other structured contract information.
- Your organization's data, including client-supplied metadata such as Intake Form information or permission groups.
- Contract text, including keywords and phrases found within the agreement itself.
Because these sources support different search strategies, Ask Knowable provides two AI-generated search recommendations when you select View Documents.
Focused Search
Focused Search prioritizes Knowable-analyzed contract data while also using your organization's data and contract text where appropriate.
Choose this option when you want highly targeted search recommendations based on Knowable's analyzed contract information.
Broad Search
Broad Search uses contract language together with your organization's available metadata but does not rely on Knowable-analyzed contract data.
Because it focuses on contract language, Broad Search may recommend additional keywords and related terms, helping identify contracts that might otherwise be missed.
This option is especially useful for:
- Search Only documents
- Contracts that are still pending Knowable Essentials analysis
Note: Knowable-analyzed contract data may not be available for every contract. For example, a contract may still be processing or may not have been selected for Knowable analysis.
Search for Tagged Documents
You can search for Tags directly using Ask Knowable.
For example:
Find contracts with tag data privacy.
When you select View Documents, Ask Knowable automatically applies the matching Tags as filter criteria.
Please note:
- Partial Tag matches are supported.
- For example, searching for Privacy will also match Tags where "Privacy" appears at the beginning or end of the Tag name.
Ask About This Document
Once you've opened an agreement, Ask Knowable lets you ask questions about that specific document.
- Open the agreement.
- Select Ask above the document.
- Review the AI-generated Document Summary.
- Open the Ask About this Document tab.
- Enter your question.
Ask Knowable answers questions using the content of the agreement. If you want to ask about a different agreement, simply open that document and begin a new conversation.
Locations
Each Ask Knowable response includes a Locations icon.
Selecting the icon takes you directly to the section of the agreement that supports the AI-generated answer, making it easy to verify the source language.
Response Formatting
You can control how Ask Knowable formats its responses.
For example, you can request:
- Tables
- Bullet lists
- Numbered lists
Example prompt:
Summarize any contractual risks in a table.
Ask Knowable will format its response accordingly.
Ask About a Contract Family
Many contracts belong to a larger contract family, such as a master agreement with related amendments, statements of work, change orders, or addenda.
Ask Knowable can answer questions across the entire family instead of requiring you to review each document individually.
- Ask one question across multiple related agreements.
- Quickly identify which documents contain relevant language.
- Reduce manual review by focusing only on documents that answer your question.
How it works
If the selected agreement belongs to a contract family containing 10 documents or fewer:
- Open the document.
- Open Ask
- Select Ask About This Document
- Select Include results from Contract Family.
- Enter your question.
For example: "Which documents in this family contain termination or renewal language?"
Ask Knowable analyzes each document individually and presents answers for each agreement. If a document does not contain relevant language, Ask Knowable will indicate:
- Language related to your question was not found.
You will also receive an overall summary of the findings across the contract family.
Note: The Include results from Contract Family option is not available for contract families containing more than 10 documents.
Available Actions
After Ask Knowable identifies matching contracts, you can:
- View Documents
- Download your results as a spreadsheet
- Tag the matching contracts
